Descrição: Collagen biostimulators are substances injected into the deep dermis by microcannulas. They generate a controlled and subclinical inflammatory process with the aim of stimulating the production of the skin's natural collagen. Widely used to prevent or treat sagging and wrinkles, they are currently essential in the process of skin rejuvenation. In this sense, the present study aimed to describe what the literature reports on the use of collagen biostimulators as a treatment for facial rejuvenation. To this end, an integrative review was carried out whose inclusion criteria were: articles indexed in the PubMed and Scielo databases, in Portuguese and English, published between 2014 and 2024, freely available and in full, and that had clinical trials, case studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses as study designs. The keywords used for the search were: facial rejuvenation, collagen biostimulator, facial treatment, facial aesthetics, and the same words in English. Twenty-nine studies addressing facial rejuvenation were found; however, only eight met the inclusion criteria and were considered for the results. The main types of biodegradable collagen biostimulators were Calcium Hydroxyapatite (CaHA), Polycaprolactone (PCL), and Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), with results lasting between 18 months and 4 years. Among the non-biodegradable, i.e. permanent, collagen biostimulators, the most commonly used was Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The effectiveness of the treatment varies between 70% and 95%, and is inversely proportional to age, reinforcing the recommendation to start treatment early for better results. As a disadvantage, the high cost of aesthetic procedures stands out, partly related to the cost of biostimulators, but also to the high cost of specialized labor, which takes advantage of social and media pressures to obtain profits. The information found in the literature describes collagen biostimulators as safe substances with excellent results in reducing skin sagging and wrinkles and improving the structural support of the face. However, non-biodegradable products have a higher rate of complications, from 0.3% to 5% of cases, and the results are less expressive if treatment is started late.
